2018 Events and Festivals
21st April : The Scottish Grand National, The biggest and best day of the jumps season in Scotland and undoubtedly one of the very top sporting occasions of the year at Scotland’s premier racecourse.
1st-31st May: Burns Fringe, A fringe programme of events throughout the charming month of May as part of Burns an’ a’ that! Includes favourite events such as the Land o’ Burns 10k.
4th-6th May: Girvan Traditional Folk Festival, A family friendly festival of traditional music and song with concerts featuring renowned performers, sessions open to all, children’s events & workshops. With special events to celebrate Girvan’s 350th Anniversary.
5th May: Burnsfest, a FREE family festival featuring live music, Burns Wine Bar and Beer Garden, A-Coo-Stick Tipi, The Mercat, Performance Pokey, Bairns Bunnet, Burns Fair and more. Bring your picnic blanket to make the most of this event!
12th May: Ayr County 175th Annual Show, Scotland’s second largest agricultural show includes animal and livestock competitions, trade stands and exhibitions, Vintage Tractor Display, RHET Kids Corner and Truck Ayr Lorry Show.
25th & 26th May: Land O Burns Weekender, Scotland's top men's and women's rugby teams compete in the hopes of being the Land O' Burns Weekender champions! Includes live music, food and Beer Festival from Scotland’s independent brewers and drink suppliers.
June, July, August and September
Holy Fair Armed Force Day, This FREE family event features a pipe band competition, military attractions, dog show, fairground rides and so much more.
23rd June: UpsideDoon, ‘Music with a Scots accent’ a fabulous night of contemporary Scottish live music in the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum gardens.
21st July: Parklife Festival, Celebrate Parklife in the beautiful grounds of Belleisle Park. Activities and entertainment suitable for all the family within the main lawn, walled garden and conservatory.
23rd-29th July: Bowls Scotland National Championships, The flagship event of the Bowls Scotland competition calendar which hosts 1400 players from clubs from all over Scotland who compete to be crowned National Champions in a variety of disciplines.
11th August: Dundonald Highland Games, A unique event which captures traditional Scottish heritage and strong community spirit within Royal Dundonald Castle. Admission to the Games is completely free and offers a whole range of entertainment and activities.
18th & 19th August: Ayr and District Flower Show, Scotland’s premier flower show boasts exhibits of vegetables, plants, fruit and floral displays. This family day also includes entertainment, food & drink and market stalls
25th & 26th August: Dunure Festival of The Sea, A weekend of live music, demonstration of knots, net mending, fresh seafood and family fun. This new festival celebrates the beautiful coastline around the harbour village of Dunure.
26th-28th October: Tamfest, Tamfest is Ayr’s spooktacular Halloween celebration with a Tam o’ Shanter twist. Theatrical performances, musicians, markets and the spectacular Day o’ the Deid Parade.
23rd & 24th November: Winterstorm, Scotland’s biggest and friendliest Classic Rock Weekender takes place in Troon every year at dates close to St. Andrews day. This event boasts an impressive line-up and visitors travel from all over to enjoy the fantastic Troon welcome!
Places To Visit
Culzean Castle and Country Park is a jewel in the south Ayrshire crown and boasts popular events throughout the year. Or why not take the ferry over to Arran for the day. You can also take a cruise on the famous paddle steamer The Waverley.
The Heads of Ayr Farm Park is a top family attraction with a fantastic mix of fun things to do for all the family.
Ayr Gaiety Theatre has shows on throughout the year, check there website to find out what they are showing.
One of the most beautiful places to visit on the coast is Dunure Harbour where you can take walks on the beach through the rocks and take in the stunning views of Ailsa Craig and Arran.
